Marathon des Alpes Maritimes

Nice & Cannes

8th November 2015

Back for its 8th edition, the Marathon des Alpes Maritimes offers the chance to run a picturesque route between Nice and Cannes that measures just over 42km. Starting at 8am on Nice’s famous Promenade des Anglais, each runner can look forward to en route entertainment with live music and dances performances, alongside views over glittering seascapes, white sandy beaches, pastel coloured façades of surrounding cities, towns and villages… and even snow-capped mountains to the north.

As well as offering the chance to see many of the Cote d’Azur’s leading destinations including the historic winding streets of Cagnes-sur Mer and seaside resort Golfe-Juan, there’ll also be a Running Expo Village with displays from sponsors, and an array of delicious refreshments at refuelling points. The landscape remains fairly flat, reaching a peak of 32 metres in Antibes and there’s also a range of relay options so that runners of every level can take part. Having gained the IAAF Bronze Label and acting as a qualifier for the French Championships, this internationally renowned event is unmissable for any runner wishing to see the most beautiful sights of the French Riviera in one challenging, yet fulfilling day.

International Documentary Month

Cannes

1st – 30th November 2015

More than 3,300 events throughout France and further afield will be taking part in International Documentary Month. 2,000 sites will be hosting screenings of rare documentaries, discussions, exhibitions and concerts, attracting attention to the works of both celebrated and little known directors. Its 16th edition includes four events in Cannes, three of which will offer the chance to view new documentaries and the fourth will be a fascinating discussion led by Patrick Robert, who boasts a PhD in Philosophy and will be delving into freedom of expression, how it’s defined and its limits.

The first screening in Cannes will be Mediterranea on the 4th of November, which follows Ayiva travelling from Burkina Faso to Italy and his determination to find a better life despite being met with hostility. Nicolas Burland’s The Festival is Over will be offering the chance to find out more about the gentrification of Marseille, particularly the time following the city being named the ‘European Capital of Culture’ on the 13th November. While, the free showing of Laura Poitras’ Citizenfour on the 28th will offer insight into her interactions with Edward Snowden in relation to the NSA spying scandal, oppression and paranoia. With such a fascinating programme, film fans can look forward to an inspiring stay in Cannes this November, however those who do unfortunately miss out can still catch a selection of 12 online documentaries as part of the 3rd edition of Webdoc Month; a festival dedicated to creating web documentary.

Arles

Admire expertly crafted wooden furniture from Marqueterie Louvet, sample Burgundian snails from Aux Trois Escargots and wine by producer Domaine Notre Dame, before trying on hand-woven accessories by Le Métier d’Art
