Summer Events in Cannes

24 July 2015

A Look at What’s On Along the French Riviera this August with Amarante Cannes

As well as Cannes’ many permanent attractions, from the 12th-century Église Notre Dame d'Esperance, to the luxury shopping boutiques along La Croisette, the stunning city and surrounding towns and villages boast an exciting events calendar throughout the year. From an enlightening look at the night’s sky, to a toe-tapping evening of live jazz and the chance to see an entire town decorated in white floral garlands, there are many unique experiences to enjoy along the Côte D’Azur this August.

Jasmine Festival

Grasse

31st July – 2nd August 2015

Located just 25 minutes away from Cannes, the sandy yellow and orange façades of Grasse and its surrounding fields brimming with flowers, are known as the world’s capital of perfume. Since 1946, the historic town has celebrated one of its most prized exports, the delicate white petals and intense sweet aroma of Jasmine, around the beginning of August… and this year is no different. A parade will take centre stage on the Saturday when up to 50,000 flowers will be sprinkled over passing crowds, while flag throwers and stilt walkers entertain and brass bands provide the soundtrack. Other highlights include a ball in the 'Cours Honoré Cresp' square, street art and workshops for the whole family, as well as a stunning display of fireworks on the Friday. Considering the fact that French fashion house Chanel solely uses flowers from the area for its internationally adored scents, this picturesque destination is perfect for hosting one of the most beautiful and heavenly scented events on the Riviera.

Jazz at Domergue

Villa Domergue

2nd – 5th August 2015

Combining the glamour of a hill-top Cannes location with the rhythmic, laid-back ambience of jazz music, this annual event offers four nights of world-class performances to an exclusive audience of 300. Built in 1934 by French painter Jean-Gabriel Domergue, the grand Villa Domergue was bequeathed to the City of Cannes in 1973 and has since been used to host Cannes Film Festival jury meetings, exhibitions and exciting music events. The Art Deco façade is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and an impressive terraced garden, in which performances will be staged. Enjoy the up-tempo sounds of New York scene regulars the Champian Fulton Trio on the 2nd, or opt for a lively fusion of jazz, swing and Latin music with the Richard Manetti Quintet on the 4th. With other acts including the award-winning Thomas Enhco and rising star Tricia Evy, alongside boasting some of the best views over Cannes you’re likely to find, Jazz at Domerge is an unmissable event this August.

Night of the Stars

Cross of the Guards

8th August 2015

Considering its location, it would be easy to assume that a ‘Night of the Stars’ event in Cannes could be related to the A-list clientele its famed for attracting, however this informative and enlightening evening out is more about the beautiful sights in the sky than the hottest names in Hollywood. Celebrating its 25th year, les Nuits des Étoiles attracts thousands of visitors to hundreds of events across the country annually, with the aim to inspire about all things astronomy. An array of guided tours, conferences and presentations will be available to attend for free between the 7th and 9th of August, with Cannes’ very own Astronomy Society hosting an evening of observations on the 8th. Attendees can admire constellations with the help of local knowledge and via projections of images taken through a telescope, as well as enjoy views from the foot of the Croix des Gardes while the sun sets over the city below.

Promenade(s) des Anglais

Nice

12th June – 4th October 2015

With breathtaking views over the crystal blue Mediterranean, the palm tree lined Promenade des Anglais has provided inspiration for countless writers, artists and musicians since being built in 1822. To celebrate its beauty, influence and history, 13 venues across Nice are offering the chance to view over 1,500 paintings, photographs, sculptures and engravings in 14 exhibitions this summer. Topics range from a chronological history of sportswear to a look at how the local landscape forms each beach pebble, alongside artworks by world-renowned painters including Marc Chagall’s poster for the city that features the Baie des Anges, and Henri Matisse’s paintings made in local hotel rooms. Located just over 30 minutes away from Cannes and currently being put forward to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this stunning stretch is a must-see this August.

From perusing a wealth of artworks to enjoying the intoxicating scent of a town filled with flowers, feel truly awe-inspired during a stay in Cannes this summer.
